Model Railroad

One of my favorite field trips in school was to the southeastern part of Pennsylvania. We did a lot of things in a short time, and I remember each one of them. We went to see a wax museum, saw a pretzel factory, went on a tour of Hershey chocolate, and visited a museum where we viewed a model railroad. Though I was only in fourth grade at the time, I remember much of the day in detail. I learned a lot about the state in which I was born, and I hope to someday go visit those in places again.

Besides the railroad, you have things like the train station, commercial buildings, residential buildings, and all of the natural things like trees, grass, and water. A truly great model railroad will have every detail imaginable and will be done so well that you could film it as a mini town and have great results. A good model railroad also has an interesting layout for the train and works flawlessly.

Those who have a model railroad in their home have probably spent their lifetime building it. Though there are some women who have them, it seems to be a male hobby. Whatever the case may be, you can bet there’s a spouse who claims that their husband or wife spends more time with the model railroad than with them. Perhaps the most intriguing thing you got a good model railroad is the fact that it looks like a miniature world all its own, and you and only you have the power to control what it looks like and how it works. Imagine building a tiny town exactly the way you would like to see it, and adding a railroad as the centerpiece. It evokes the romance of a time gone by.

Understanding Your Cat

This small article about cat facts on social behavior and interaction should help you better understand your pet. The behavior of cats is largely misunderstood, even by highly experienced cat owners. I hope you find this information helpful.

If there’s one trait that cat owners enjoy most, its the independent nature of their little feline friends. We should feel honored when a cat decides to gives us the time of day. Any cat gleefully asking for a head rub or a belly scratch is too much to resist for most cat lovers.

Have you ever looked at your cat and wondered what your cherished pet is thinking? After many years I still do that quite frequently. I also wonder why cats do what they do and act as they act. Cats can be a mystery however, much of their behavior can be easily understood if you know the reasons behind.

Unlike dogs, domesticated cats do not engage in the formation of packs. When forced to live more closely to one another they normally would in the wild, cats will often resort to time sharing their territory when ever possible.

Designer Dog Collars

Let’s face it, everything about your appearance, your company, and your possessions reflect on you. From your house to your kids to your cars, people will judge you by what you have, and how those close to you act. Even your pets reflect upon you. That is why having the right designer dog collars is so important. Through a designer dog collar, you can show everyone that you have a handle on life. You know that appearance is the most important priority. You take care of everything, down to the smallest touch. If even your dog is fashionable, your life is pretty together!

Of course, there are a number of other dog pet supplies that affect how your dog looks. Most people don’t realize the importance of a proper diet for a dog, which is strange because they know how important a proper diet is for themselves. Aside from a designer dog collar, the dog’s diet is the most important factor in how it looks. Designer dog collars can decorate a dog, but the diet – combined with proper exercise – determines how the dog will behave, how it’s coat will look, and how people will react to it.

Marriage and Families Matter

There is no doubt about it, marriage and families matter to the average person more than anything else in their lives.

We may seek to deny it. We may isolate ourselves from the bonds of family, and avoid marriage relationships, or be distracted by careers and ambition from our family. We may rebel against discipline, and live apart. Even sometimes there are sadly still, those that are rejected by their families and unable to meet and enjoy quality time with their relations.

But, despite all this and the ready access to quality services helping us to meet those with similar interests and develop relationships outside the family, it is for most of us their marriage and families which matter to them the most.

The marriage and families blog has been created in recognition of this by Steve Evans. Steve married in his thirties after a period in which he did his best to try to escape from marriage and family. For almost ten years he traveled the world and throughout this time he seldom contacted his parents, other family members, or even friends. Although his parents remained together, throughout his childhood they had bickered, nagged and argued, and he wished none of this for himself.

Middle Child Syndrome - Fact Or Fiction

Considering Alfred Adler’s concept of birth order, how does this work within your family? Can you see your children taking on these birth order roles? What’s the family atmosphere in your home? Can you see your child or children working towards Adler’s concept of healthy social interest? Most importantly, does the birth order of your children - from the oldest to the youngest toddler - seem to make a difference in how your child’s character develops?

When you consider the birth order of your children, keep in mind that several extraneous factors influence the children’s behavior; the age differences of the children, handicaps or disabilities with any child, and the gender of the children. Adler never meant for birth order characteristics to be written in stone; there are always outside factors that will make a difference in their birth order behaviour.

Adler’s theories on birth order can offer valuable insight when it comes to understanding the behavior of your own children. Of course, birth order won’t account for every behavior, as there are so many other factors involved in personality. However, birth order is another tool to help you comprehend what shapes your children for better or worse.

Advices For Effective Parenting

All in all, getting good parenting help is the gateway to effective parenting. Without assistance and advice, many parents simply go it alone and wander aimlessly through the struggle of parenting. Often times, it can be a shock to the system to acknowledge the need for help. Parenting should not be about ego or lack of humility; it should be about raising the child with the best information possible. In this aspect, using all of the resources possible, from parenting books to general parenting advice, is the best option to practice effective parenting techniques.

Essentially, it takes a village to raise a child. Effective parenting skills will inevitably reflect this notion, as more people start learning to create solid networks of support for their kids. In this respect, society benefits from people helping one another. This notion helps society grow and, as it would appear, leads to effective parenting skills from one generation to the next.

Oh no, not those baby shower games!

baby shower ideas (and shower games in general) have come to be enjoyed by some and dreaded by others. Traditional baby showers invite female friends and relatives and this often sets the tone for the type of games to be played. &#xLI;LNK% vary widely from clever, to embarrassing, to disgusting.

In the disgusting category are such baby shower fun as ‘identify the baby food’. Eight to ten jars of baby food have their labels concealed and through tasting, the guests see who can identify the most flavors. Imagine trying to tell the difference between strained peas and green bean gruel. Maybe this shower game would be more palatable if it were baby fruits and desserts only.

For an embarrassing game, there are lots of choices. To embarrass the young mother-to-be, a game is played with different lengths of ribbon. Each guest takes a length of ribbon that they believe is equivalent to the girth of the pregnant Mom. One by one, they measure their guess around her and see who is the closest. What a great way to make a pregnant Mom, with hormones raging, more sensitive about how she looks!

For something more classic in baby shower games, play the baby photo game. Each guest brings a baby photo of themselves and the guest who identifies the most individual’s wins. This game is especially fun when you have a wide range of ages amongst your guests. This means some old black and white photos, maybe Polaroid’, and of course digital photos.

If you’re more sentimental, try a game where each guest brings a recipe-either for a baby treat or an easy-to-fix meal for Mom and Dad. The expectant Mom can pick her favorite as the winner, but still ends up with lots of great recipes.

Amaze Your Friends With Your Craft Of Crocheting

Even though a computer-operated embroidery machine can’t be included in hand-crafts it still uses embroidery patterns just as much as you would with a needle and thread. Here are the five most popular ones.

1. Red embroidery floss was always color fast, so it didn’t bleed onto white on washday. Historically it was very expensive and often used alone to exhibit it’s rich color. Traditional patterns included kitchenware, fruit, flowers and birds. Today this is as popular as ever.

2. Initials. What can be a better way to personalize something than embroidering some initials. These can use a beautiful pattern, or be used inside the collar for a more permanent name than a laundry marker will provide.

3. Vintage patterns are back in fashion. I’m not surprised. Modern art doesn’t appeal to me.

4. Whither you are making them for the grandchildren or to sell, classic children’s embroidery items will always be popular. Use characters from a children’s book for instance. If you are selling them, don’t break copyright rules. Find a one hundred-year-old embroidery book with children’s patterns and combine 3 and four without breaking copyright.

5. Embroider onto garments. Get them from the opportunity shops, and personalize them. You can make a good income on eBay just doing that, but that’s another story. It isn’t about the most popular embroidery patterns.

Impress Your Friends As Your Dog Walks Politely By Your Side

When I trained my first puppy, the first thing I taught her was the word No! Each time she stopped doing something when I said No she was praised and rewarded. One day she was going to grab a hanging tassel in the neighbors house. I said No, and she came running across the room and bounced up into my lap to be praised.

Another command is Free! That means that your puppy is free to do whatever he likes, and you can get the message across at first by dancing about when you give the command.

Now teach your dog to lie. The usual command is down, but I use Lie! A dog can get hopelessly confused when someone says SitDown! Which is he to do?

Hold a scrap of dried liver in your right fist and lower it to the ground in front of your puppy as you say Lie! If he does it, he gets the food. That’s fine as far as it goes. He can perform quite impressively during heel work when you drop him. But the useful thing is when he stays down.

I like reading. So I put a lead on my puppy, tell him to Lie, and Stay, then slip the lead under my foot with the end in my hand, and start reading my book. Each time the puppy tries to get up I jerk the lead saying No! Stay! Lie!

This is one training session that doesn’t have to end with the attention span of your puppy. It will go to sleep. When it wakes up you remind it Stay! After a couple of hours reading your book your puppy should know the meaning of the word Stay.

I taught my afghan hound Stand!Stay! by standing him on a polished coffee table to be groomed. If he tried to move he would slip on the polished surface.

One day I heard him yelping and followed the sound. His long hair was caught in a thorn bush. I called out Stand!Stay! and he stopped struggling immediately. I finished climbing up the hill and used a penknife to cut him free. It took about twenty minutes and he didn’t move during that time.

Train your dog to slip in front of you and Lie!Stay! whenever you open the front door. If the visitor is welcome you call the dog to heel. Otherwise he is between you and the intruder, and if the intruder doesn’t flee you give the command Free!

Parental Challenges - Protecting Childhood Innocence

The excerpt below is from a series of articles about parental concerns

What takes the place of childish innocence? We can only hope that it is wisdom. As kids learn the ways of the world, this knowledge can sometimes be disappointing. There’s no such thing as Santa Claus or Superman. The tiny puppy grew into a big dog that bites if its ears are yanked. Grandmother died - she isn’t “sleeping.” And there are monsters, but they don’t live in the closet at night; they are teachers and babysitters and the nice man next door who has some strange pictures of naked kids.

As their innocence is depleted, little kids simply accept the world as it is, not as it should be as adults often do. This is another example of a child’s wisdom; things are what they are. A hurricane blew our house away. Some people who live far away don’t like us, and they hurt a lot of people in New York. Many people, even kids, get really sick and they go to live with God where they won’t be sick anymore. My Mommy and Daddy don’t live in the same house.
