Doubtless you will have heard the words, “I’m bored,” voiced by their daughter or son? Perhaps kid crafts could be the solution. Supply craft materials to the kids and boredom will be long forgotten. Here are some ideas for kids crafts.
Essential materials for children’s crafts include paper, crayons, safe scissors, and glue. Paper for kid crafts can be construction paper, plain typing paper, cardstock in a variety colors, and many other options. Old magazines and junk mail can make curious art activity. Crayons are good for younger children, but the stores are now filled with other options, such as watercolor pencils, washable dry-erase markers and gel pens. The cost of craft items can soon mount up, but even on a low budget there are numerous possibilities.
Other items that kids can craft with include recycled wasteand found objects. By recycled waste, I’m referring to plastic containers, empty cereal boxes, toothpaste boxes, cardboard from packaging, and even tin cans. If you let kids to work with tin cans, however, you need to make sure the open edge of the can doesn’t have any sharp edges. If they do, you need to file these off or squeeze them flat with a pair of pliers.
Found objects include leaves, twigs, stones, and other natural items a child might discover. Perhaps there is a sheep farm nearby. If so, scraps of wool can often be found stuck to the barbed wire fences. Any or all of these items may be used in children’scrafts.

For an extra challenge, a collage can be built around a theme such as the family or animals. Old magazines can be looked through for just the right pictures, which can be cut out and glued to the background. Younger kid crafts can include collages built from glued down pasta, beans, popsicle sticks, leaves, and many other items. Don’t forget about glitter, too. If the budget allows only a few kid craft splurges, remember that kids of all ages, especially girls, really like crafting artwork that includes glitter.
