Take A Flight On The London Eye, Most Tourists Do!

London, the capital city of England and the UK, has a huge choice of visitor attractions, many of which are amongst the most popular in the country. For generation upon generation London has been an astoundingly popular vacation destination and much of this interest is due to the immensity of the historical buildings and the unique culture. While many of the tourist attractions to be found in London are historically interesting, for example the Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace the Tower of London, there are a number of others which are relatively new, for example the Millennium Bridge, London Aquarium, Millenium Dome, and the more popular of these, the London Eye.

The London Eye is not unfrequently referred to as the Millennium Wheel as it was built in nineteen ninety nine to commemorate the coming of the new millennium. It was officially opened by the English P.M., Tony Blair, in the evening of 31st of December however, sadly, there was a number of technical issues therefore it was not opened to the public until March 2000. At a height of one hundred and thirty five meters above London it is now a highly visible, and unmistakable landmark.

In 1895, at Earl’s Court, was the Great Wheel of London, which was a monsterously huge Ferris Wheel which was able to accommodate approximately sixteen hundred tourists a time. Sadly it was knocked down in 1907 but now London has something rather similar in the London Eye. Although it is not the largest Ferris wheel in the world it can easily say that it is the worlds largest cantilever observation tower!

Although the London Eye cannot accommodate as much tourists as could the Great Wheel of London, it can accommodate 25 tourists in each of its thirty two capsules. Unlike in a Ferris wheel, in the London Eye, you are able to stand up and wander about in a pod but you may discover that you want to remain seated as it takes roughly half an hour for it to finish a complete revolution.

With as much as three and a half tourists traveling on the London Eye every year it is, now, the most visited visitor attraction which charges a fee across London and the British Isles. The most likely reason why tourists choose to take a ride on the London Eye is to witness for themselves the most astounding sights seen from it. At the very top of the London Eye one is able to see as far as 4m. From this incredible standfpoint one is able to view such world famous landmarks as Hampton Court Palace, Westminster Abbey, St Paul’s and Buckingham Palace. Obviously these are just a few as you are also able to see the best possible views of the majority of the landmarks of London. In fact the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben look as though they are directly below you.

The London Eye has proved to be a popular spot for marriage proposals and weddings and they now offer special wedding packages. When booking a flight it is also possible to book other things such as educational trips for small groups of students of all ages.

If if you are in London for only a short time the London Eye is a real time saver because you are able to take in nearly all of the best London landmarks while on the 30 minute flight which is impossible to do any other way (excluding a helicopter or balloon ride). Luckily it is reasonably easy to find hotel near the London Eye which could save more time. If you are on a tight budget you will be pleased to know that it is also possible to find cheap London hotels without too much trouble
